Flagstaff Sports Foundation Golf Tournament to benefit recipients of the Excellence Award
The Flagstaff Sports Foundation partners with the AIA sanctioned High Schools in Flagstaff to select a male and female student athlete to receive a financial award from the Foundation. High School principals and athletic directors use a specific criteria in recognizing exceptional young athletes who have excelled in sports and demonstrated leadership skills through hard work, determination, and commitment to their teams and their schools, all in the face of challenging circumstances in their lives. These recently graduated Seniors are a credit to their Alma Maters and a fine example of the best young people representing our Mountain Town.
On Friday, August 15, 2025 a golf tournament will be held at the Continental Country Club public golf course at 2380 N. Oakmont Dr., Flagstaff, AZ 86004 to augment the Excellence Award campaign (an opportunity for donating will also be available at the August 16th Hall of Fame banquet).
A limited field of 32 golfers will tee off beginning at 8:30am in a two-player “best ball” scramble format with the final foursome starting around 9:50am. Players will come to the clubhouse and pay their own green fees at 7:45am. The rules to the tournament will be sent out to players the week of the tournament. Each player before teeing off will donate $75.00. Players are asked to bring that amount in CASH (no credit card transactions will be available at the tournament). Of that amount $50.00 will be a donation to the Flagstaff Sports Foundation Excellence Award recipients and $25.00 will go into a tournament “winners’ pot” ($800.00 total). Receipts for the $50.00 donation will be given to anyone who desires for tax purposes. Any donation amount greater than the $50.00 minimum is welcomed.
These generous donations will help pay for books, meal plans, tuition, etc. for these student athletes’ 2026 spring semester, offsetting some of the expenses they experience attending the trades schools, community colleges, or 4-year universities they’ve chosen.
After the final foursome completes their round all of the players will meet up at the Oakmont restaurant turn in their scorecards and calculate the tournament winners’ payouts.
The openings for golfers are limited and the reservations are being taken now by Foundation Fundraising Committee Chair Mike Pavon. If interested in entering or receiving more information please contact him at (520) 631-3179 or email him at pavon@cox.net. Once the 32 player field is filled a cancellation list will be started in the unforeseen case of golfers having to cancel their reservation.
We hope to see you at Continental Country Club on August 15th. Wonderful people with a great appreciation for Flagstaff athletics getting together for a worthwhile cause. What could be better?
